What is Kabbalah?

Kabbalah is a thought discipline that is not well understood by those that are not familiar with it. It seems that someone either practices Kabbalah or they know nothing about it at all. The first thing that you need to know is that it stems from the Hebrew faith. The word Kabbalah actually means “to receive” in the Hebrew language.

The thought process was first developed in the 7th century. It started in what is today Italy and also saw early beginnings in other countries and areas along the Mediterranean coast. It was started by Jewish people in that area. The religion uses a lot of different aspects in its study. These studies are based less in finding yourself and more focused on losing yourself in order to find yourself. It is often referred to as Jewish mysticism.

In Judaism, it is believed that the Kabbalah is so mystifying that only those with a very deep understanding of Judaic law would be able to full grap it. It was thought that you would have to be at least 40 in order to understand the Kabbalah. This is why modern efforts at the Kabbalah Center are under such skepticism from Jewish traditionalist.

The Kabbalah Centre is a non-profit headquarters for the teaching of Kabbalah in America. It is located in Los Angeles, CA. The headquarters are overseen by Phillip Berg and his wife Karen. It was first founded as a place to increase the teachings of the Kabbalah in America in 1965.

The original headquarters for the Kabbalah Centre were in New York. The headquarters were originally called the the National Researach Institute of Kabbalah. The current headquarters in LA were built in 1984.
