George Soros is the founder of Soros Fund Management LLC based in New York City. Over the years he has accumulated a wealth of about $25 billion through effectively managing his hedge fund. One of his most notable achievements was in 1992 when he shorted the British pound. He made so much money doing this that he was branded as the man who broke the Bank of England. He is also well known as a philanthropist and someone that has continously supported a number of liberal causes.George Soros is originally from Hungary. After being occupied by both Nazi Germany and by Russia he was able to flee the country and ended up in London. He graduated from the London School of Economics and later emigrated to the United States in 1969. He was able to establish his hedge fund in that year with $12 million in initial funds and went on to decades of investing success.
In the 2004 presidential elections, George Soros was heavily against the re-election of George Bush. He donated $27 million which was spent in an effort to defeat Bush and instead elect the Democrat John Kerry. He supported Hillary Clinton during her 2008 run as well as her bid in 2016. It was during the 2016 election that he had planned to attend his first-ever Democratic convention where he wanted to be on hand to support her presidential nomination acceptance. Shortly before the convention was to be held, however, he had to cancel the trip as he needed to focus on an urgent situation in Europe which could have heavily affected his investments there.About Donald Trump, George Soros has been very vocal in his condemnation of his character and beliefs. He has said that Trump is doing the work of ISIS by separating people by race and building support for the terrorist network.
Additionally, George Soros for many years has supported financially and otherwise immigration reform and religious tolerance. He also supports criminal justice reform and points out that overwhelmingly convicts are those people that are minorities in the United States.In addition to contributing his own funds, George Soros also has influence with a broad network of other liberal rich activists. Of his own money, George Soros during the 2016 election contributed to a number of political action committees and activist groups. This included giving $5 million to Immigrant Voters Win and $2 million to American Bridge 21st Century. He gave another $700,000 to other groups such as Democratic committees and individual campaigns. Another $5 million of his money went to fighting against Republicans who wanted to restrict the voting rights of minorities in their states and districts.
